What is sprayed insealation?

  • a polyurethane foam that:
    • does not use formaldehyde, CFC's or HCFC's
    • meets off-gassing requirements of CGSB 51..23 92 for new residential construction (no toxic or carcinogenic products are detected)
  • a complete system that:
    • insulates
    • seals and controls air leakage (including airspaces around electrical outlets, faceplates, at baseboards and window/door framing) and sound
  • a one step insulation and air barrier system

Is the same foam used in all types of applications?

  • open celled foam is used in housing applications
  • closed cell foam is used in floatation and freezer applications

Where can sprayed insulation be used?

  • new construction
    • in ground heating pipes
    • outside walls, ceilings, attics
    • spas
  • fishfloats, floating docks and boats
  • hot tubs
  • freezers, refrigerator trucks

What are the advantages?

  • a lifetime transferrable warranty
  • an inert, chemically and physically stable material that will not settle, shrink or sag after time (thus retaining its R-value)
  • heating and cooling costs are typically reduced by 30 to 50% and allow for the use of smaller, less expensive heating and cooling equipment
  • eliminates energy robbing air leakage and the associated problems with moisture, mold, mildew and condensation
  • offers excellent sound absorption and transmission properties because of its effective air seal
  • a material that adheres well to steel studs, cement board, wood etc
  • a material that remains flexible, allowing building materials to expand and contract with season and temperature changes, without developing cracks that would ultimately destroy the air seal
  • acts as a physical and odor barrier for pests such as roaches, ants, mice and termites

How do costs compare with conventional insulations?

  • while initially more expensive, the overall cost of a home, long-term energy costs, performance and comfort value make this a favourable medium
  • additional upfront costs typically pay for themselves in energy savings within three years and will continue to save money every year thereafter
